In January 2024, our residents embarked on a delightful journey to witness the dazzling display of Lighted Christmas Balls in the Sunset Hills Neighborhood of Greensboro.
A Tradition of Beauty and Benevolence: The Lighted Christmas Balls
Picture this: streets adorned with twinkling lights, creating an enchanting spectacle that warms the soul and ignites the spirit of the season. For the Sunset Hills Neighborhood, these Lighted Christmas Balls aren’t just decorations – they’re a symbol of unity and generosity. Not only do they dazzle with their beauty, but they also serve a noble purpose: raising awareness for hunger within our community.
Spreading Joy, Sharing Hope: The Running of the Balls
But wait, there’s more to this magical tradition than meets the eye! In addition to spreading holiday cheer, the Lighted Christmas Balls shine a spotlight on a cause near and dear to our hearts – ending hunger. Through initiatives like the annual 5K race fondly known as “The Running of the Balls,” the Sunset Hills community has raised over 4 million meals for those in need, thanks to a heartwarming partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank.
A Warm Welcome and Good Cheer: Countryside Residents Join the Festivities
Though our Countryside Residents didn’t lace up their sneakers for the race, they certainly embraced the spirit of giving and celebration. Led by the wonderful Mary Miles Hooper, our Director of Member Services, our residents enjoyed a leisurely drive through the neighborhood, soaking in the sights and sounds of the season.
Sipping Hot Cocoa, Spreading Happiness: Our Joyful Outing
As we meandered through the illuminated streets, laughter filled the air, and hearts swelled with gratitude. Our delightful excursion was made even sweeter with steaming mugs of hot chocolate and apple cider, warming our spirits and bringing smiles to every face.
