New Residents at Country Side Retirement Community in NC
“It’s the best move we ever made,” says Betty Compton of her move to Countryside Retirement Village.
Betty and her husband, Lewis, settled into a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment in the senior independent living facility last July.
The couple first learned about Countryside and its many offerings while looking for a skilled nursing home for Betty’s mother in 1988. “We wanted her closer to us but didn’t really know anything about Countryside at the time,” Betty admits. “We just picked a name out of the phone book.”
Betty’s mother spent eight years at Countryside Manor and both the Comptons were pleased with the care and the environment. So much so, that when she began having health issues that required physical therapy, Betty chose to come to Countryside Manor for rehabilitation.
During that same time, the couple discovered that taking care of themselves and their home was taking its toll.
“Betty felt like we didn’t need to take care of a house and our daughter wanted us to be in a place where we could get good care,” says Lewis.
Countryside Retirement Village was the logical choice. So, the couple sold their Summerfield, N.C. home, packed up their belongings and set-up housekeeping in one of the community’s spacious apartments.
Since coming to Countryside, the two have found much to enjoy about their new lifestyle.
Lewis mentions the comradery among the residents. “We’re all in the same age group,” he says. “We understand each other’s feelings.”
Along with the fellowship, the couple also enjoys the wide range of activities. “There are loads and loads of things to do,” says Betty. “I simply don’t have time to do everything I want to do.”
Some of Betty’s favorite things include the weekly Bible Study, the shopping trips and the breakfast outings. “My favorite thing is the pool and the water aerobics classes,” she adds. “I’ve missed very few times since we’ve been here.” Then, there’s the food. “We love the chefs we have here,” says Betty. “I thought I was a pretty good cook but I sure do enjoy their cooking.”
